Tony Joseph
Journalist/ Author

Tony Joseph is an Indian journalist with over three decades of experience in journalistic writing and editing. Formerly, the editor of Businessworld magazine, he also served as the chairman and co-founder of Mindworks Global Media Services until 2018. He has also contributed, at various times, as features editor of The Economic Times and as Associate Editor of Business Standard. His articles have appeared in Outlook India, Quartz, Live Mint and The Hindu.

Joseph is critically acclaimed for his best-selling book Early Indians: The Story of Our Ancestors and Where We Came From (2018), for which he won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize 2019. The work challenges current narratives of origins of the first humans who occupied the subcontinent. Instead, through sustained research in six disciplines, including new DNA evidence, Joseph’s work introduces the world to an undeniable truth: we are all migrants; we are all mixed. Weaving population genetics, archaeology, social history, biology, linguistics and other fields, Early Indians explores prehistoric migration and Indian history.
