Mamta Sagar

Mamta Sagar, is an academic, poet, translator and playwright writing in the Kannada language. She has four collections of poems, four plays, an anthology of column writing, a collection of critical essays on gender, language, literature and culture in Kannada and English, and a book on Slovenian-Kannada Literature Interactions to her credit. Her writings focus on identity politics, feminism, and issues around linguistic and cultural diversities. Deeply engaged with issues of human rights violations, gender and social justice, Sagar’s poetry reflects her social concerns.

Sagar has collaborated her poetry performance with visual artists, musicians and poets from other language areas within and outside India. She has participated in poetry festivals and facilitated poetry workshops in many Asian, European and Latin American countries and is actively involved with international poetry translation projects like Literature Across Frontiers, Poets Translating Poets and Melding Voices. Her poems have been translated into many Indian languages apart from over 12 international languages. Sagar is a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust fellowship (2015) and Auropolis Poet in Residence at Belgrade (2012). She is currently associated as a teaching faculty with the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bengaluru.
