Alka Pande

Dr. Alka Pande is a noted art historian, author and museum curator. She holds a double masters in history and art history, and a PhD in art history from Panjab University. She has taught Indian Arts and Aesthetics for over ten years. Her major fields of interest are gender identity, sexuality, and traditional arts. Dr. Pande has been passionately involved with the world of art for more than three decades. She has been responsible for curating several significant exhibitions across the world, and for setting up many museums including the  Bihar Museum, the  Udaipur City Palace museum, and the Kanha Museum of life and art. She has also written extensively on Indian aesthetics, culture and photography. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships including the Charles Wallace fellowship, the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, the Australian-India Council Special Award, L’Oreal Paris Femina Women Award and the Amrita Sher-Gil Samman bestowed by the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi. She is currently working as an art consultant at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, and is also the visiting faculty of DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
